When setting out to paint the NDLON truck, we were faced with a few unique challenges in particular. The first, designing in a way that keeps people engaged with the gates closed and open to enhance the performers inside. The next, painting all sides of the 37 foot truck in just over 2 months. Lastly designing with the safety of the day laborers in mind as they plan on driving the truck across the country.

The theme is “on the shoulders of, and in the footsteps of giants”. We wanted to call the American symbols of freedom, and justice to court. Rolling agricultural fields, and field workers making the flag. Immigrants crossing the ocean, crown and torches in hand, the real symbols of liberty. With painting on a vehicle, we couldn’t pass the opportunity to sprinkle in our Southern Californian car culture roots. Doors embellished with flames, pearlescent flakes on all sides, burnout smoke, and the giant laborer in the pose of the famous “keep on truckin” . All designed for the viewer to find more opportunities to become engaged, and spark curiosity to take in the full story as you walk around the truck.
